Streamlining Clinical Trials and Research at U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs

Baldr Consulting member Atlas Research is proud to be at the helm of an innovative project with the VA Office of Research and Development (ORD) that aims to revolutionize the Veterans Healthcare research enterprise. Since February 2021, we have been working in partnership with ORD to optimize the end-to-end clinical trials process and research experience for VA clinical researchers and Veteran patients.

Our approach was grounded in Human-Centered Design (HCD), focusing on redesigning the clinical trials process to achieve several critical outcomes. These included optimizing the clinical trials process itself, enhancing stakeholder satisfaction, improving adherence and retention, reducing protocol deviations, streamlining clinical documentation and data collection, and accelerating the pace of clinical trials.

A key component of our work was supporting the ORD VA Innovation and Research Review System (VAIRRS). We played an important role in the implementation of IRBNet, a new enterprise-wide research platform, across 108 VA Medical Centers (VAMCs), serving over 15,000 active users. Our efforts with ORD have not only streamlined processes but also paved the way for more efficient and effective clinical research within the VA system. We are committed to continuing our work in enhancing the research landscape, ensuring that veterans receive the benefits of the most advanced medical research and care.
